The paper outlines the reasons for the development of the new timing system synchronizing the technological processes and control procedures at the IHEP accelerators complex. Besides that the principal solutions of the dedicated problems are described. The format of coded timing messages, the structure of the new distributed General Timing System (GTS), its basic components and timing network are considered. Special attention is paid to reliability of the GTS performance, in particular to diagnostics of malfunctions at the system. The current status, realization plan and main results of a GTS segment test are presented.
