The study of scintillation counter amplitude and time characteristics in nonrelativistic proton beam
Protvino, 2014. – p. 15, figs. 11, tables 3, refs.: 5.

Time and energy resolutions of a scintillation counter were studied using 25-206 MeV proton beam. BC-404 scintillator bar was 40 cm long and had a cross-section of 1.25x6 cm2. It was viewed from both sides by R1828-01 PMT's. Amplitude resolution s/A, where A is a sum of signal amplitudes from both PMT's, follows 0.036E0.57 dependence in E>40 MeV range. This gives a possibility to estimate the proton momentum using ionization energy losses with precisions/E from 3.0% (E=40 MeV) to 12.5% (E=206 MeV). The counter time resolution s(t) changes from 53 to 78 ps with energy increasing from 50 to 206 MeV. In the same energy range the resolution of coordinate along the counter s(x) increases from 7 to 11 mm. These characteristics weakly depend on the particle coordinate in the middle of the counter (± 10 cm from the center). This research was performed in the frame of preparation elastic hadron scattering experiment at the U-70 accelerator.
