All independent classical solutions for the three-mode Nambu--Goto string are found. Geometry of the obtained closed curves is considered. Canonical quantization of a part of the solutions is performed. The spectrum of the obtained quantum states (glueballs) does not contradict experimental masses and quantum numbers of mesons which are not described by the quark-antiquark string model. The leading Regge trajectory of the obtained states does not contradict the available data on the leading pomeron trajectory.
