Proton beam extraction by a short silicon crystal from the IHEP accelerator

This paper presents the physical background for a particle extraction from IHEP accelerator by means of short bent silicon crystals, explains the extraction schemes, analyses the results of the studies, considers in detail the regime of simultaneous work of crystal extraction and several internal targets, discusses the outcome of the studies on the created crystal test bench. It has been shown experimentally that by use of short crystals one can obtain extracted beams with intensity of ~1012 proton/cycle with efficiency of ~85%.
