Radiative Polarization of Beams in the VEPP-2M Storage Ring

Radiative polarization of the beams in the VEPP-2M electron-positron storage ring is studied experimentally. Polarization of a beam was measured on basis of the variation of the counting rate of particles scattered within a cluster on resonant depolarization by an external electromagnetic field. The values of the time and degree of polarization are in good agreement with the theoretical predictions. It is shown that the beam energy region between 450 and 670 MeV can be passed without destruction of polarization. The conservation of polarization in the presence of an intense counter-beam is demonstrated.
